Kenyan Police Inspector Who Died After Being Charged For Marrying Two Men, What Happened To Her?


Bigamy is a thing that has rarely been recorded in Kenyan history but some of the women have done the unthinkable by being married to two men. Discussions have been elicited by this matter since the law is not against polygamy which is of equal measure to bigamy.

However, it is logical that two men marrying one wife might end up in disastrous fights that might even end up in killings. In as much as polygamy is never embraced by many women, they have dusky suffered in silence since no law stands for them in such circumstances. Due to this, the government enacted five-year imprisonment for anyone who got involved in such a crime.

DCI Officer On The Receiving End For Getting Married To To Men, How Was She Punished Since Its Against The Law?

Anne Wanjiru Waiganjo, a Directorate Of Criminal Investigations Officer in Karen was on the receiving end after being involved in bigamy. During her term in office, many identified her as a dedicated officer who looked into it that she delivers to Kenyans diligently which led to her rising to higher ranks.

Wanjiru Waiganjo is among the few women in our country who have been accused of being married to two men. Bigamy is against Kenyan law and due to this, she was duly risking a five-year term in jail.

Allegedly, Anne was married on 24th April 2009 to Mbitu, an officer in Nakuru but later on separated, though not formally and she got married to another officer by the name of Murimi. Murimi battered her and this left her hospitalized on several occasions and she quitting as a solution. Due to this, she filed for a divorce for some time that saw the 8-year relationship ended on 11th August 2020.

, Murimi took an action by accusing her of bigamy and duly granted her the divorce.

β€œShe had already contracted another marriage with David Mbitu Muchia, a prisons officer, on April 4, 2009, at Full Gospel Church, Njoro Town, Nakuru County,” Murimi said in court documents at the time.

Waiganjo’s divorce move might have been the right thing to opt for since many women have suffered in silence at the hands of abusive and violent men. This has seen several women thrown into depression and a number of them ending up dead in the hands of such men. Her move was lauded by many but a number of the people castigated her for being involved with two men at a time which is a thing that could have duly endangered her life.

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in 2020, death has been hitting our country right and left with prominent individuals with a majority being Kenyan politicians not being spared. The government has made efforts of curbing the virus spread by enacting strict laws and vaccinations all over the country. The demise of the famous Kenyan Chief Inspector, Anne Waiganjo left many in disbelief after news got to them.

According to reports, Karen Directorate of Criminal Investigations Chief Inspector, Wanjiru Anne Waiganjo collapsed while at a friends farewell party, Henry Kiambati, in Upperhill un Nairobi. The farewell party was because Henry was quitting his job as the Makadara DCI boss. While at the party, Waiganjo complained of chest pains and after some time, she fell unconscious.

Immediately, her friends rushed her to Nairobi Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. At that time, the Nairobi region Commander, Nthumbi Augustine said that the cause of her death was unknown and encouraged everyone to be patient as investigations were underway to determine the cause of death.

β€œAs of now, we cannot say if there was foul play. We are waiting for experts to inform us,” he said. A postmortem examination is scheduled for Monday, July 5, 2021.

Government Pathologist Conducts Autopsy On Her, Reveals What Caused The Death Of Anne Waiganjo.

An autopsy has served as a tool in determining the cause of death thus being a tool in serving justice. With autopsy, body organs are keenly observed to determine what might have led to death and also additional tests on organs to determine any traces of poison.

Since the death of the DCI officer was questioned by many, with a majority saying that her death might have been linked to her ex-lover, an autopsy had to be done to ascertain the cause of death. This was because Waiganjo had revealed that she was facing threats from her ex-lover since their marriage had ended in a divorce.

A post-mortem was duly conducted on the body of Anne Waiganjo to determine the preliminary cause of death. According to the government pathologist, Johansen Oduor who conducted an autopsy on the body of the late Karen DCIO stated that Waiganjo died of deep vein thrombosis. The autopsy revealed that she had a clot of blood in her left leg and this duly affected her heart function thus leading to death.

β€œShe had deep vein thrombosis, which led to pulmonary embolism; a clot in the pulmonary artery,” said Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor said.

After her cause of death being clarified, the allegations of Murimi having been involved in her killing was floored.
